Our commitment to community development is rooted in a simple purpose — to ensure that the roads we build also pave the way for stronger, healthier, and more empowered lives. We believe that infrastructure must serve people first, and our CSR initiatives are designed to uplift the communities that live along and around our corridors. Guided by this purpose, we focus on creating real impact through education, healthcare, road safety, skill development, and resilience-building programs that respond to the needs of local populations. By working hand-in-hand with communities, government bodies, and grassroots partners, we strive to create environments where people can thrive. We are equally committed to environmental stewardship, working to preserve natural ecosystems, promote sustainability, and ensure that development progresses responsibly and harmoniously with the environment. Our mission is not just to connect places, but to connect aspirations — strengthening India’s development journey through meaningful, inclusive, and sustainable social progress.
Our Corporate Responsibility Projects
Shikshaantra Plus Program:
To bridge learning gaps and ensure equal access to quality education, SHE, in collaboration with KHUSHII, launched the Shikshaantra Plus initiative — a comprehensive school transformation program empowering children across 10 Government schools in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.
Since 2022, the program has reached over 8,000 students, providing support education in key subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Gujarati, Computer Education, and Spoken English through innovative remedial teaching techniques.
The initiative goes beyond academics — focusing on holistic development by:
- Enhancing teaching-learning environments and digital classrooms
- Promoting health, hygiene, and WASH awareness
- Building 21st-century life skills, creativity, and critical thinking through STEM & CCT sessions
- Offering counselling and psychosocial support to nurture emotional well-being
- Encouraging student leadership through Maitri Groups (children’s clubs)
Through Shikshaantra Plus, SHE is not just improving education — it is inspiring confidence, curiosity, and a brighter future for thousands of young learners across rural India.
Cycle Donation:
Strengthening its commitment to empowering rural communities through education, Surat Hazira NH-6 Tollway (SHE), organized a cycle donation drive. 20 bicycles were distributed to deserving girl students from Tapi and Surat districts with the aim to help young girls overcome mobility challenges and continue their education without interruption.
Green Belt - Mandal:
At the Mandal Toll Plaza, systematic green belt development has been undertaken to enhance environmental quality and promote ecological balance in an area that previously had limited green cover. Tree plantation activities within and around the toll plaza have contributed to improved air quality, dust and noise reduction, and the creation of a more pleasant environment for commuters and nearby communities.
A diverse mix of fruit-bearing, non-fruit-bearing, and flowering tree species has been planted to support biodiversity and long-term sustainability. These include fruit trees such as mango, tamarind, guava, lemon, jackfruit, coconut, banana, papaya, and jamun, along with native shade and avenue species such as neem, banyan, Ashoka, and bel patra.
The initiative reflects SHE’s commitment to green belt development, environmental stewardship, and sustainable infrastructure, aligned with its broader sustainability and climate resilience objectives.
Solar Power Plant:
-
Solar Power Plants – Bhatia and
Mandal Toll Plazas
To advance the renewable energy transition in highway operations, solar photovoltaic systems have been installed at two key locations—Bhatia Toll Plaza (200kW) and Mandal Toll Plaza (180 kW)—with total installed capacity of 380 kW.
Together, these two systems contribute to energy self-sufficiency, cost optimization, and CO₂ emission reduction—representing a key milestone under SHE’s Sustainability Master Plan 2023–25 for expanding renewable energy coverage across all operating assets.
This activity demonstrates SHE commitment to fostering “Safer and Sustainable Highways” and strengthening local partnerships for climate-positive action.
Solar Street Light:
-
Solar Street Lights – SHE
Corridor
Under the sustainability and energy-efficiency initiative, solar-powered streetlights have been installed along the SHE corridor at key locations to enhance illumination, ensure road safety, and reduce dependency on grid electricity. A total of 177 All-in-One (AIO) solar streetlights have been commissioned across the stretch, primarily of 40W and 60W capacity, ensuring continuous night-time visibility and safety for commuters.
-
Community Solar Street Light
Installation
As part of SHE’s community engagement and green infrastructure initiative, 10 solar streetlights have been installed in nearby community areas along the SHE corridor. The installations were prioritized for village approach roads to improve safety and accessibility after dusk.
- Enhanced local safety through better night-time lighting.
- Renewable energy adoption within surrounding communities.
- Awareness among residents on the benefits of decentralized solar systems.
The initiative promotes:
This activity demonstrates SHE commitment to fostering “Safer and Sustainable Highways” and strengthening local partnerships for climate-positive action.
Composting Units:
Two composting pits installed at Mandal and Bhatia Toll Plazas processed approximately 304 kg and 343 kg of organic waste respectively between September 2024 and September 2025. These systems have effectively reduced the need for external waste disposal, promoted on-site recycling, and contributed to soil enrichment through the use of harvested compost for landscape maintenance.
Tree Plantation:
Under the Swachhotsav-2025 campaign, the Surat–Hazira NH-6 team, in collaboration with the Forest Department, conducted a Massive Tree Plantation Drive at SHE toll plazas under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” A total of 700 saplings were planted with active participation from employees and stakeholders.
The initiative reflects SHE’s commitment to environmental stewardship, green infrastructure development, and national cleanliness and afforestation drives.
E-Waste Management:
To strengthen sustainable waste management practices and promote circularity, SHE ensures that electronic waste (e-waste) generated across its operations is disposed of only through authorised and compliant recycling vendors, in line with applicable regulatory requirements.
During the reporting period, e-waste was responsibly collected and channelised for environmentally sound recycling - 6,620 kg.
This initiative helps prevent improper disposal, reduces environmental and health risks associated with hazardous electronic components, and enables material recovery through formal recycling systems. The approach supports SHE Sustainability Master Plan objectives on circular economy, environmental compliance, and responsible resource management, while reinforcing accountability.
